Stained Coachwood Coffee Table

STAINED COACHWOOD COFFEE TABLE

This coffee table was commissioned by the Thales Group for a Royal Australian Navy warship. Made with hand-cut dovetails for the draw which is cut into the front rail so the grain matches are continuous. The built-in drawer on the front allows for plenty of storage space for TV remotes. The top is book-match solid coachwood to match the dining table in the captain cabin. They were both stained in jarrah water-based to make the furniture look like mahogany much like what would have been used back in the 18th-century warships of old. The shelf is used to store magazines and books to keep the top clean and clear. It's a vision of traditional style and craftsmanship.
